About Us

The Bittersweet Chocolate Co.
was founded in 2007 by Nigel and Dianne Holling to allow them to pursue their ambition to produce the finest quality chocolate and confectionery products.

Based in a small rural workshop, Bittersweet Chocolates have successfully followed their passion to create high quality chocolates using the traditional techniques of the artisan chocolatier. With an emphasis on flavour, our chocolates use the finest organic essential oils, spices and herbs to create flavours which blend seamlessly with our chocolate.

We proudly continue to make all our chocolates by hand in small batches as we believe this is the best way to ensure the very best quality product.

 As well as producing our own branded range of chocolates we also offer a white label service for customers wanting their own branding or presentation


In addition to manufacturing chocolates we also offer chocolate making workshops suitable for both corporates and individuals and can be found at a number of regional Farmers Markets and shows throughout the Year. Although we don't offer the opportunity to come and visit our workshop (we are very small) you can come and visit the shop.

Located in the small village of Breedon on the Hill DE73 8AN, the shop is hidden inside the village inn, The Three Horseshoes.

The Three Horseshoes is a delightful country inn, having log fires in the winter and a lovely enclosed sun terrace in the summer. You'll also find a genuine Victorian mahogany chocolate counter filled with a selection of our products.

Thursday to Saturday         5.30pm - 9.00pm
Sundays                           12.00pm - 3.30pm
